Bi-Monthly Golf Course Update August 15th, 2020
Starting in July I began sending out a second monthly communication (in addition to the Forecaddie) that will be an update to the ongoing work on the golf course and any other timely operational information.
The Practice Pitching/Chipping Area is set to open Monday August 17th. The re-vamped area includes re-sloping of the entire site, expansion of pitching areas, restoring of the green back to original size, removal of the original bunker, creation of new bunker, and removal of one tree. The green will initially have two flag locations, but once the newly sodded areas are smooth we will expand to three or hopefully four flag locations. For safety reasons, signage along with posts and chain will indicate how far out pitching is allowed according to the depth of the range hitting area tees.
Gold Tees are built on #2, #11, #13, #15, and #17. The sodding process was started last week. The new tees be ready for use when the sod roots, the seams have filled in, and the cutting height is established. Until then, temporary tees will be in use.
COVID-19 guidelines will remain as is for the foreseeable future. No changes are planned at this time. It has been observed that golfers are becoming lax in observing the utilization of masks and/or social distancing. We are fortunate that SBR has not experienced any severe issues with COVID, but please stay vigilant as we are not free of this issue yet!
The Putting Green opened Monday August 3rd. We are still gradually reducing the cutting height and working to get the green as close to the greens on the course as possible.
10th Hole Rough has been sprigged and is taking nicely. Our hope is that it will fill in well enough to avoid the need to overseed this fall. A final evaluation will be made in September.
10th Hole Fairway is growing and filling many of the bare areas in the first and second sections. All sections will be evaluated again in September. Until then, #10 will remain as a par three hole.
7th Hole Fairway and Green Collar have been roto-tilled to remove an almost six inch layer of thatch and then was sodded. It opened to play August 3rd. It should be open to cart traffic in about two more weeks.
The Chelsea System’s Pointing Policies were evaluated and updated with the help of input from the Greens Committee. The updates and an announcement on the specific changes will be published as soon as the changes are implemented and ready for launch. The updates will add flexibility for the residents while maintaining the same level of fair access to all those that use the automated tee time system.
8th Hole Green Surround and Apron were re-sodded last week. The area is marked GUR until the sod roots.
Please feel free to email me with any questions relating to this information.
