Bi-Monthly Golf Course Update January 15th, 2021
Bunker rakes will remain in the bunkers after discussion with the greens committee. Raking the bunker is a matter of etiquette and not required by the rules of golf. Because we know there are players that do not want to touch the rake at this time, our local rule allowing the player to take relief for the lie of a ball in the bunker that is in divot or footprint will stay in place.
Scorecards are ordered and should arrive toward the end of the first week of February. The Plum, Plum/Gold, and Rust/Plum tees had minor changes made that resulted in minor changes to the rating and slope of those tee sets for men and women. GHIN will be updated when the cards arrive.
Cart Rules are especially important right now, not only because it is wintertime and many areas are dormant and are not as resilient to cart traffic, but also because of single rider carts due to COVID. Please follow the cart rules listed below to help reduce wear and tear to the turf from carts.
o DRIVE ON PATH until even with the ball then enter turf at 90°.
o SCATTER ACROSS TURF until the ball is on the green complex.
o EXIT TURF at 90° to the path.
o STAY 25 FEET from tees and greens, DO NOT drive around the sides or back of greens.
o DO NOT DRIVE on Par-3 holes.
o DO NOT DRIVE in the desert.
o DO NOT ENTER private property to retrieve golf balls.
Community Snack Shack (Ed’s Dogs) - Plans are under way to create a grab and go golfers menu and to modify the facility to allow for a pick up window as well as a short term parking area to allow golfers to “drive through” for a quick stop that won’t delay pace of play. I will let you know as the plan develops and becomes ready for implementation.
Frost Delay Season is upon us so please check your Chelsea home page to see if your tee time has been delayed by frost. The information will be posted as close to 7am as possible. If there is a delay, we ask that you check with the pro shop to see if any time has been made if your tee time is later in the morning or early afternoon.
COVID-19 guidelines were reviewed in the last Greens Committee meeting on October 7th and were updated for opening day October 20th. The changes are listed below. No additional changes are expected at this time.
o One golfer per cart is NO LONGER MANDATORY. Rental carts will no longer be complimentary and golfers will be charged for use of rental carts.
o Rakes will be restored to the bunkers (see second comment above for specifics).
o Sand bottles will be replaced on rental carts and on course sand containers will be filled and available.
o Water cups will be available at the pro shop by the ice and water machine and in the restrooms at #15 tee.
o Flagsticks will REMAIN IN PLACE.
o Shotguns WILL NOT BE RESTORED at this time.
o While some of the procedures have been relaxed, it has been observed that golfers are becoming lax in observing the utilization of masks and/or social distancing. We are fortunate that SBR has not experienced any severe issues with COVID, but please stay vigilant as we are not free of this issue yet!
