SaddleBrooke Ranch Golf Club Greens Committee
Meeting Minutes – January 8, 2020

The regular meeting of the SaddleBrooke Ranch Golf Club Green Committee was called to order at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.  The meeting was held in the La Vista room at the SBR Hacienda.

Committee Members present:
Jack Gressingh, Jean Cheszek, Sam Rossi, Jeanne Osterlund, Jim Cook, Toni Graves, Jeff Pharr, Ken DeLeo and Mike Mycka

Robson Staff present:
Mike Jahaske, Ken Steinke and Chris Blake

Jack Gressingh called the meeting to order and held  roll call.  All were present except Mark Giannonatti.  Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
  1. Mike Jahaske’s report:
  • There were 43,885 rounds played in 2019—up 3,000 rounds over prior year. Revenue is up $155,000 over prior year as well.
    • Resident Use                             Non-Resident Use
  • 2018                               57%                                        43%
  • 2019                               58%                                        42%
  • In 2019 there were 142 Annual memberships and 68 Punch Cards
  • So far in 2020 there are 150 Annual memberships and 43 Punch Cards
  • Approximately 15-18% of households are currently golfers.
  • Discussion on the availability of tees times for groups on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  Policy is that two tees during mid-day (time to complete 18 holes required) plus one tee time per hour are Barter times that are pre blocked for the ability to utilize Golf Now to fill open slots.  Shot guns can be considered when there are consistently 128 golfers.
  1. Mike’s report from Mark G:
  • There are 10-12 trees ready to be placed on the golf course.  Input was requested from this committee on placement.  Trees are to be used to affect playability not shade tee boxes.  In response to homeowner concerns, trees will be placed on #1 and #18 with additional trees on # 1. A sub-committee consisting of Mike Mycka, Ken DeLeo and Toni Graves was established to provide recommendations on locations.
  • Aiming Poles:  The same sub-committee will provide a recommendation on location to place an aiming pole on #7.  No other aiming poles are being considered at this time.
  • Golf Products:  Mark is open to establishing a committee late spring/early summer to make recommendations on additional/alternate products.  Mike will ask Mark if a survey may be sent out prior to that time to gauge resident interest.  The survey must be approved prior to sending.
  • There is no update on opening of The Shack.  There are drainage issues that must be resolved.
  1. Chris Blake report:
  • A nursery will be established this year so that grass can be harvested for use on the course.
  • Questions/comments from residents were presented:
    • Recommendation to overseed the driving range, chipping green and putting green first next year rather than last.  Response:  Chris saw the bad weather coming and chose to have the 18 greens on the course get the best advantage.  Next year overseed is starting a week earlier so will hopefully be better in terms of weather.  Additional issue with putting green is poor drainage.
    • Resident asked that mushy areas on #11 and #17 near the green be marked as GUR resulting in a free drop.  Response:  Drainage in these areas are being addressed this year.  They will not be GUR.
    • The road between #15 & #16 needs to be improved.  It is very bumpy and results in deteriorating carts and tires.  Response:  We were just notified that it will be 6 weeks until the road is completed.  Chris will see what he can do to make it better although it is not a golf course issue, it is a developer issue.
    • Pot holes in the path across the two bridges on #10.  Response:  Ken DeLeo is repairing them.  (He completed the repairs two days after this meeting—thank you Ken!)
  • People are driving too close and behind the greens.  The starters will be instructing players to stay at least 25 feet from the greens and not go to the side or behind the greens.  The signs are going to be upgraded as well.

Old Business:
  • Gold tees:  The sod for #13 is coming in soon.  Next tees likely #15 or #17.  Jean, Jeanne and Toni will make recommendations on order to address.  The gold tees on #11 are not being returned to the correct place after mowing.  Mike has the plaque and will have that one put in now.
  • Aiming pole will be installed on #7 only.
  • Policy on Annuals playing late in the day:
    • The pro shop has a “soft close” around 2:30 or 3:00pm.  The door is locked and the staff member takes the cell phone and marshals the course.
    • Residents should call the cell phone if the Pro Shop is locked.  The number is 520 561-1196.  This number is also on the scorecard and the door.
    • If there is no answer, they may proceed to the tee on #1.  They should not jump on the course on any other hole.  They must always go to #1.
  • Adopt a Hole update:  Jeff reports there are over 100 people on the list.  He will be cleaning up the list and resending to see how many still want to be in the program.

Next meeting is scheduled for February 5, 2020 at 10:00 am.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:00.
