Bi-Monthly Golf Course Update September 15th, 2020
Starting in July I began sending out a second monthly communication (in addition to the Forecaddie) that will be an update to the ongoing work on the golf course and any other timely operational information.
The Practice Pitching/Chipping Area, Practice Putting Green, and the Driving Range will close one week before the course closes for overseeding so we can open it one week before the course opens to give our residents earlier access to golf. The range and practice areas will close on Monday, September 21st and open on Tuesday, October 13th barring any weather related delays.
Gold Tees are now built and sodded on #1, #2, #3, #4, #11, #13, #15, and #17. Tees on #5, #6, #8, #14, and #16 were either shared with the Plum tee or already existing. Gold tees on #7, #9, #10, and #18 still need to be built. All tees built this summer will be ready for use following overseeding.
COVID-19 guidelines will remain as is for the foreseeable future. No changes are planned at this time. It has been observed that golfers are becoming lax in observing the utilization of masks and/or social distancing. We are fortunate that SBR has not experienced any severe issues with COVID, but please stay vigilant as we are not free of this issue yet!
Dormant Fairways: This summer much progress was made restoring the fairways of the course allowing us to go from five fairways dormant to 8 fairways dormant this winter. Fairways on holes #1, #3, #7, #8, #10, #11, #13, and #17 will be dormant.
10th Hole Rough Sprigged Areas have taken well, but will not be at the density required to be left dormant this winter so will be overseed as needed to provide a solid playing surface. Several large sections that were not sprigged have good density and will not be overseeded.
10th Hole Fairway has filled in extremely well and will be left dormant this winter.
7th Hole Fairway and Green Collar and 8th Hole Green Surround and Apron will be left dormant this winter to allow the new sod to have an extended growing period.
The Chelsea System’s Pointing Policies were evaluated and updated with the help of input from the Greens Committee. The updates and an announcement on the specific changes are published and launched and can be seen on the Chelsea Home Page. The updates have added flexibility for the residents while maintaining the same level of fair access to all those that use the automated tee time system.
Please feel free to email me with any questions relating to this information.
