2021 Club Championship
With our super-slick greens, the Club Championship was wide open this year. It was definitely a nail-biter as four golfers were just 2 strokes apart at the top of the heap.
The gross scores in the Championship Flight averaged 83.3 on Day One and with a bit of wind on Day Two, they were up a stroke at 84.3. Prevailing in a great battle was your new Club Champion, Ron Stenhouse, who shot 80/80 for a 160 total.
Patrick Fancher, the Day One leader, was a stroke back at 161 while John Whitehead and Bill Oprish shot 162's. Rounding out the Championship Flight money winners were Dave Jones and Doug Redfield who shot 166.
In the Bryson DeChambeau flight, the Day One leader, BJ Shultz, was ahead by 2 strokes to start the day and limped home with a 1-stroke victory as he shot 76/88 for a 164. Mike Chonle was at his heels and made up a lot of ground on a tough Day Two with a 81/84 for a 165 and there were four players with 166: Mike Eby, Tim Chamberlin, Dennis Johnson and Rich Hanson. For you geeks (like me), the Day One scoring average in the flight was 82 and the Day Two average ballooned to 88.
The Dustin Johnson flight Day One leader, Steve Schneck, had a 4 stroke lead after his 80 and shot 84 on Day Two to maintain his 4-stroke victory with a 164. Steve Laak shot the flight's best Day Two score of 80 to climb the ladder and finish in 2nd with a 168. Steady Larry Tipton took 3rd with a 169 while Gil Logan and Rob Ortega shot 171's to round out the flight's money winners. Day One average score was 89.5 while Day Two improved to 88.5.
Long-time buddies Sam Rossi and Jeff Silver had a shootout in the Jon Rahm flight. Sam was ahead 83 to 84 after Day One and Jeff bested Sam by 2 strokes on Day Two to steal the hardware from Sam. After Jeff's 172 and Sam's 173, Tim McCauley and Richard Osterlund shot a pair of 176's and Alan Ness shot 177. The other money winners in the flight were Alan Ness who fired a 177 while Tom Graham and Harley Schlachter shot 179's.
Day One scoring average was 90.7 and Day Two was 92.3.
Perhaps the most impressive 2-day total in the 75-man field came from Bruce Crawford in the Brooks Koepka flight who handily cruised to victory with an 84/85 exhibition to win the flight by a whopping 7 strokes. Ed Robertson shot 176, BIll Mihal shot 180 and Mike Koen roared back on Day Two with a 96/88 finish to take 4th place in the 12-man flight. Day One averages were 93.8 and Day Two was nearly identical at 93.9.
KP's earned the winners a $10 gift card and were Larry Hawkins (#2), Mike Chonle (#5), Rick Merritt (#12) and Patrick Fancher (#14).
Congrats to all participants in making our premier event a memorable one!
