UPDEGRAFF CUP – 2023 SBRMGA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Our first club championship, named in honor of recently deceased SBR resident Dr. Ed Updegraff, was played under two days of near perfect weather conditions and many of the golfing performances reflected it. Mark Whims defended his title as Club Champion, but not before having to withstand the pressure on the last tee of losing 6-shots off a 7-shot lead over the previous two holes. The Senior Club Champion, Steve Thomson, fired a sterling tournament low round of 72 in protecting his Day 1 one-shot lead over Ron Knapp, who posted the day's second-best score of 74. All five non-championship flights had their own fine performances as four of the five winners came from behind to take the top spot in their respective flights.
