I. Opening
Richard called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm
II. Reading of the Minutes and Approval
Richard asked if anyone needed the minutes read from the last Board meeting. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.
III. Presidents Report
Richard said he is happy with the way things are going. The Ryder Cup went well.
The club championship has been moved to October 20 - 21. The 2-man event will now be 11/3 - 4. The Founders Cup is now scheduled for 11/10-11. If for some reason there is a delay with the greens project, the Club Championship will move to the 11/3 - 4 dates & the 2-man will be cancelled.
There was a discussion on if we want to continue games while on temporary greens. After discussion, it was agreed to go ahead with normal Thursday games. Will probably back up a set of tees to offset the shorter distances. Will suspend hole in one payouts. Will also go to a maximum 2-putt rule. When you reach the green, you can try & make the putt. If you miss it, the next one is good.
IV. Vice Presidents Report
Tom reported that there were some manufacturing issues with the shirts. Some of the shirts may be a little different. If we wind up with extras, they will be offered to new members.
V. Secretarys Report
Jeff reported that the Grounds Subcommittee has marked off the locations & sizes of the temporary greens. They will be approximately 60 feet in diameter where possible. They also were placed in the fairway where possible & at least 65 feet short of the permanent greens. This was done to protect workers & to prevent players from being sprayed with water while they are watering in the new greens.
There will be 2 temporary greens on number 11. One is short of the wash, and the other is over the wash, but partially behind the tree on the other side. The hole can be played either as a par 3 to the shorter green, or as a par 4 to the other. In Tuesday & Thursday ladies & mens games, as well as in the various other groups, the person running the game can decide how the hole will be played.
VI. Treasurers Report
Mike Tomaso presented a financial update.
The possibility of having a luncheon to celebrate the reopening of the greens, as well as a Christmas dinner was also discussed. The Board is in favor of these provided the banquet facilities are reopened by then.
VII. Weekly Events Report
Mick said we will be continuing the once a month free Thursday game.
VIII. Special Events Report
Harley was pleased with the Ryder Cup event and thought it went well.
IX. Communications Report
Frank is gathering pictures from the Ryder Cup Event to publish. He is also working on something to do to recognize our sponsors.
X. Membership Report
Eric reported that we now have 225 full members.
He is also dealing with an AGA issue that is showing double approval for new members. He is checking with the new members to make sure they are not charged twice by the AGA for their membership.
XI. Community Outreach Report
Rick is still waiting on payment from a couple of our sponsors. He is also working on doing something to recognize sponsors.
XII. Rules & Handicap Report
Jim presented new local rules the Rules & Handicap Subcommittee have developed. He will be presenting these to the Greens Committee for approval. The Board supports these & recommends approval.
XIII. Director of Golf Report
Mike Jahaske reported that the Greens Committee is meeting March 31 at which time dates should be firmed up on the redoing of the greens. The weather could change the dates, but the current plan is to spray the greens April 5 - 6 to kill the existing grasses. This will take 2 passes.
Will go to temporary greens May 1. The dead grass & approximately 3 - 4 inches of soil will be removed. New soil and sprigs should be in by June 15. They will be using 1 1/2 times the normal number of sprigs to ensure good coverage & grow-in.
The Board recommended that the reopening of the greens not be rushed & not to open them until they are in good shape.
John Witman is our interim superintendent. Two crews from the contractor Oliphant will be on site. One for the greens & the other to do drainage work & tee boxes.
The rust tee box on number 16 will be moved right of the cart path. The “eyebrow” at the top of the hill just past the tee boxes will be lowered & the tree in the wash area removed. A few trees will be added to the right side of the new rust tee box.
The pine tee on number 3 and the rust tee on number 18 will be enlarged.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm.
