Tournament Rules – 2022 SBRMGA MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
RULES OF COMPETITION
Please read completely and carefully
The tournament will be played in accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf for MATCH PLAY.
2. If you know or believe that your opponent has breached a rule that has a penalty you may act on the breach or choose to ignore it. If you or your opponent deliberately agree to ignore a breach or penalty you both know applies, you are both disqualified.
3. If there is a disagreement on a ruling, players must announce to the opponent before teeing off on the next hole. A decision will be made by the Tournament committee at the end of eighteen holes. No right to play two balls. A player who is uncertain about the right procedure in a match is not allowed to play out the hole with two balls.
4. Player who is away plays first on every shot. FAILURE TO DO SO DOES NOT CAUSE A PENALTY BUT THE OPPONENT MAY REQUIRE THAT THE STROKE BE REPLAYED.
5. Wrong ball rule…in match play the first player to hit a wrong ball loses the hole. If the players discover the problem late in play on the hole, they may not be able to determine who hit the wrong ball first…hole is then halved.
6. Playing from the wrong place is loss of hole penalty.
7. THIS LOCAL RULE IS NOT IN EFFECT FOR THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP, Stroke and distance are the only option available. Remember a Ball is Lost after a three-minute search.
8. The 14-club rule is in effect. Count your clubs before play begins. The penalty is a match-adjustment penalty. For each hole during which a player had to many clubs in the bag that player loses the hole-up to a maximum of two holes.
