Richard called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm
Richard asked if anyone needed the minutes read from the last Board meeting. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.
Richard discussed the formation of a Nominating Committee for elections for next year’s board. Tim McCauley will head the committee. While there can be nominations for any position, the open positions are Special Events, Communications, and Rules & Handicap.
Richard asked for a volunteer to coordinate the Club Championship luncheon. Rick Knapp volunteered. Richard & Tom will assist.
The Board agreed to provide entry fee support for the upcoming Club Championship ($10), & Founders Cup events ($5).
In the past, we have had a par 3 event following closure for overseeding mainly due to cart path only restrictions. After discussion it was agreed not to have one this year since there will be no restrictions when we reopen.
Les & Leslie Brown of Oracle Land & Homes Realty are donating $600 to sponsor a Hole in One Fund. Any member that has a hole in one during a Thursday MGA event will receive $200 to help cover their bar tab. We will not be collecting $5 from individuals to fund this program as in the past.
Tom reported that we sold 160 MGA shirts this year.
Garry Knowling has agreed to become our webmaster for next year.
Mike Tomaso gave a financial update.
MGA member gifts will be given out starting with the first day of the Club Championship. They consist of a bag tag & divot tool.
Jeff gave an update from the Greens Committee & Grounds Subcommittee. The resurfaced greens are coming along nicely & will be ready for play when the course reopens October 2nd.
Aaron Thomas & staff have made great progress with improving our fairways & overall course conditions.
There will be a preview event September 19th to allow residents to play a round on the resurfaced greens. Following that event, the course will close for a light overseeding of the tees, green surrounds, & practice area.
We will be staying with single rider carts for the time being. This will be reviewed on a month by month basis. However, the MGA should encourage people to ride 2 per cart if they are comfortable in doing so.
Mick is working on completing the event calendar for the remainder of the year now that the closure dates have been finalized.
After discussion it was agreed to have more computer picked (allowing the computer to pick the teams) events versus pick your own team. This will enable members to meet & play with different members.
We will be going back to having a closest to the pin prize on Thursdays when the course reopens.
Harley is working on the two remaining special events for this year. The Club Championship will be November 3rd & 4th. The Founders Cup will be November 10th & 11th.
Frank will be putting out more information & talking up the upcoming Club Championship & Founder Cup events.
Eric reported that we now have 246 full members. In addition there are 38 people that are paying for handicap only.
Membership renewals will begin 10/1 with a discount for paying before 12/31. Eric will be sending out reminders to renew.
Rick reported he is working on renewals for next year.
Jim reported that Trisha Kelly spearheaded the Rules Committee in constructing a quick rules guide. This is an update to the handout card that was previously available. These should be available for MGA members in 1-2 weeks.
Once Mike Jahaske has reported to the Arizona Golf Association that our course is open, we will be able to post scores here at SBR.
Mike Jahaske reported that the maintenance staff has begun prepping the course for the overseed of the tees, green surrounds, & practice area.
256 people signed up for the September 19th preview event. There will be a raffle for range cards & drink tickets will be handed out.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 pm.
