Special Event Overview
Member-Member
Dates: February 28th & 29th
Entry fee: $25 entry
Payouts: Flight payouts to follow MGA payout guidelines. Payouts for each 9 holes as well as for overall on each day and for overall for the tournament. All ties remain.
Format: Two-man team games. Members can sign up as a team or as a single and then be paired up by the Event Coordinator.
Day 1: Holes 1-9: Net Best Ball Holes 10-18: Chapman
Day 2: Holes 1-9: Scramble Holes 10-18: Total Net
Handicaps: Handicaps based upon USGA recommendations for each 9-hole game.
Flights: Based upon combined team handicap index.
Tees: Tees will be assigned by flight. We would expect to have flights using Pine, Long Combo, Pine/Rust and Rust tees.
Rules: This event will be conducted under the Stroke Play Rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
The Updegraff Cup - SBRMGA Club Championship
Dates: April 10th & 11th
Entry fee: $25 entry
Payouts: Payout to the Club Champion will be in cash. Flight payouts to follow MGA payout guidelines. In the event of a first-place tie for the overall Club Champion, a 3-hole playoff will take place the following day. If still tied after 3-holes, the playoff will continue via sudden death to determine the Champion. All other ties remain.
Format: Individual Gross stroke play tournament played over two days.
Handicaps: No strokes given within flights.
Flights: Based upon course handicap from the tees being played with the following exception:
Those players declaring to play in the Championship flight will play from the Pine tees. The Club Champion will be the player from this flight with the lowest two-day aggregate score.
Tees: Player tees are determined by their weekly MGA preferred tee selection, except for those players opting to play in the Championship flight (Pine).
Rules: This event will be conducted under the Stroke Play Rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
Ryder Cup
Dates: May 15th, 16th & 23rd
Entry fee: $25 entry
Payouts: $10 for each match won, $5 for each match halved and $20 for being on the winning team.
Format: Team event over three days:
Day 1: 2- man team – Best Ball
Day 2: 2-man team – Chapman
Day 3: Singles Matches
Handicaps: Handicaps will be netted off the lowest handicap player in each match and will follow USGA guidelines for handicap allowance. Matches will be established by Captains to minimize handicap differentials.
Teams: Players will be evenly distributed into two teams based upon handicap index as follows:
Team 1 Team 2
1, 4 2, 3
5, 8 6, 7
Teams 1 and 2 will be determined by coin flip with the team captains.
Match pairings will be decided by Captains with an emphasis on creating pairings of similar handicap indices and tee selections. The final singles matches have traditionally paired 1 v 2, 4 v 3, etc.
Tees: Each match to be played from the same tees. Player tees are determined by their weekly MGA preferred tee selection but can be modified by mutual agreement of the captains, if needed, to accommodate match being played from the same tees.
Rules: This event will be conducted under the Match Play Rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
Bubba Hawkins
Date: July 22, 2024 (8am Shotgun)
Entry Fee: $50 per team (the same as our Special Events - $25 per person). How do you pay? When checking in at the Pro Shop, both the male and female will scan their HOA cards. That will create a $10 charge for each of you which goes to the Prize Fund and KP's for the event.
You then need to write a check (made out to SBRMGA) for $30 per team. It doesn't matter whether the check is written by the male or the female, but only ONE check please which will help the poor soul making the deposits. That $30 will go towards a lunch afterwards in the large meeting room at the Bistro.
Eligibility: The male must be a member of the SBRMGA, and the female must be a member of the SBRWGA (18-holers only). Note that you may not partner with someone residing at your address (wife or significant other).
Format: This will be a 2-person, best net, 18-hole event where each player gets 85% of their course handicap per USGA recommendation.
There will also be FOUR closest to the pin opportunities - two for men and two for women. Those players will be rewarded with a $20 gift card good at the Pro Shop and restaurants.
Tees: All players will play from the tees that they play in their regular league events.
Food & Beverage: The menu will be a buffet of the following:
Match Play
Dates: Rd 1: Thu-Jul18th Rd 2: Thu-Jul25th Consolation Rd 2: Jul26-Aug18 (self-scheduled)
Flight Championship & 3rd Place Rd: Thu-Aug22nd

Payouts: Based upon 8-man flights … 1st-$95 2nd-$65 3rd-$40
Format: Individual match play tournament played over 3 or 4 rounds. First round matches within flights will be randomized.
Handicaps: 100% handicap given per USGA guidelines. Handicap strokes will be netted within a given match (e.g. a 14-handicap playing a 12-handicap would be given 2 strokes).
Flights: 8-man flights determined by handicap index. Note: to facilitate 8-man flights throughout the field in order to complete the event within a 3-4 round condensed schedule, both the Championship & Senior Championship flights (played with no handicap) have been eliminated for 2024.
Tees: All matches within a flight will be played from the same tees. We would expect to have flights using Pine, Long Combo, Pine/Rust and Rust tees.
Rules: This event will be conducted under the Match Play Rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
Member-Guest
Dates: 2024 October 16th-18th
Specific schedule of events and competition to be released April 2024. See Member Guest 2024 Tab when available.
Entry fee: $550 per two-man team
Payouts: Payouts for daily flight winners, overall winners, CTP contests and Horse Race.
Putting Contest: Day one
Format: Team stroke play tournament played over two days, quota format per player.
Handicaps: 100% based upon USGA recommendation. Second day quota adjustment of 50% plus or minus based upon first day performance.
Flights: Based upon combined handicap.
Tees: Each participant can select their tee from Pine, Long Combo, Pine/Rust, Rust.
Rules: This event will be conducted under USGA Stroke Play Rules as amended for specific local rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
Founders’ Cup
Dates: November 6th & 7th
Entry Fees: $25 entry
Payouts: Payouts to follow MGA payout guidelines. If there is a tie for first place after day two, a 3-hole playoff will take place the following day. If still tied after 3-holes, the playoff will continue via sudden death to determine the Champion. All other ties remain.
Format: Individual Net stroke play tournament played over two days.
Handicaps: 95% course handicap given per USGA guidelines
Flights: None (full field competition).

Individual Eclectic
Dates: December 4th & 5th
Entry Fee: $25 entry
Payouts: Flight payouts to follow MGA payout guidelines. All ties remain.
Format: One-Man “Best Ball/Ringer” tournament played over two days. Players take their best net score on each hole from either round 1 or 2 to make up their 18-hole total score.
Handicaps: 85% of course handicap per USGA recommendation.
Flights: Based upon handicap index.
Tees: Player tees are determined by their weekly MGA preferred tee selection.
Rules: This event will be conducted under the Stroke Play Rules posted on the SBR MGA website.
