1. Opening
Richard called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm
2. Reading of the Minutes and Approval
Richard asked if anyone needed the minutes read from the last Board meeting. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.
3. Presidents Report
There was discussion about going to a split tee (holes 1 & 10) on Thursday mornings.
Two main issues were raised: 1. Would require starting earlier with the first tee times of the day. That could result in a 7am start in a few months. 2. If the first groups play too fast, they could run into groups still teeing off when they make the turn, causing them to have to wait before playing their second nine.
After a lengthy discussion, the Board decided not to try this at this time. It could be tried in the future, or the issue could be resolved when we are able to go back to shotgun starts.
4. Vice Presidents Report
Tom presented 3 shirt samples for this year’s shirts. One was from Cutter & Buck, and two were from Greg Norman.
The Board decided to offer members a choice of either the Cutter & Buck shirt or one of the Greg Norman shirts. The shirt will cost members $20 with the MGA paying the additional $20. If a member wants a second shirt, they will pay $40 for that shirt.
5. Secretarys Report
Jeff provided an update from the Greens Committee. Among the items discussed were a trial program using entry & exit gates on three holes to try & limit damage to the turf between the cart paths & the fairways. Once thru the gates, you will drive in the fairway or rough until you reach the exit gate. Try not to drive in worn down areas.
We are going away from a strict 90 degree rule on the other holes. Stay on the cart path until you get even with your ball. Then go 90 degrees to your ball. Once off the cart path, scatter & stay off until you get towards the end of the hole.
With the warmer weather we have been having, the grass on the greens is starting to grow. This should continue to improve & fill in over the next month. It is asked that everyone remain patient.
There will be a major drainage project throughout the course this year. The start date is being determined to have as little impact on major events as possible. It should take approximately 30 days to complete. A hole may need to be closed while this work is being done, but other than that, should not interfere with play.
6. Treasurers Report
Mike presented a financial update.
He also reported that he has filed with the IRS & state, so we are in compliance.
7. Weekly Events Report
Mick reported that attendance is up. We have had over 100 in 2 events.
He is also trying to accommodate people who want to play early or late.
8. Special Events Report
Harley discussed upcoming special events.
The Ryder Cup event will be held March 10, 11, & 18. The entry fee will be $25 with $20 being paid by the member & $5 being paid by the MGA.
The Club Championship will be April 14 & 15. The entry fee will be $20 with $15 being paid by the member & $5 being paid by the MGA.
The 2-Man Pick Your Partner event is scheduled for May 19 & 20 unless it needs to be moved to August due to the drainage project.
9. Communications Report
Frank has published the Scorecard and it can be found on the MGA website.
He will be doing recaps after special events and will be having periodic articles in the Ranch Roundup.
10. Membership Report
Eric reported that we have 9 new members, so we currently have 220 full members and 30 handicap only members.
11. Community Outreach Report
Rick reported that all but 2 of the premier sponsors have paid up. There are still a few platinum sponsors that need to pay.
The Board approved the addition of Oracle Home & Land (Les & Leslie Brown) as sponsors.
12. Rules & Handicap Report
Jim submitted a report prior to the meeting. He is working on a modernization of our local rules.
A new report is available on the GHIN site that shows hole by hole scores from any tee played. Jim can compare this to our hole handicaps.
13. Director of Golf Report
Mike reported that he is trying to coordinate the timing of the drainage project with our & the WGA’s special events. As stated earlier, we may need to move the 2-man event to August.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 pm.
